Hôtel Mégret de Sérilly, Private mansion in Le Marais, Paris, France
Hotel Megret de Serilly is a private mansion with brick and stone facades in Le Marais. The main building is flanked by two service wings surrounding a central courtyard, with regularly spaced windows defining its appearance.
Nicolas Malebranche, a financial official under King Louis XIII, commissioned architect Jean Thiriot to build this residence between 1618 and 1621. The interior decoration was later enhanced with elaborate details.
The name refers to Antoine Mégret de Sérilly, who decorated the interior with elaborate carved fireplaces, wood paneling, and painted ceilings in the 18th century. These details still define the appearance of the rooms today.
The residence is located at 106 Rue Vieille-du-Temple in the 3rd arrondissement and has been protected as a historic monument since 1961. Its facades and roofs are safeguarded by this official designation.
Two ornate rooms from the late 18th century were removed from the house and now reside in different countries. One boudoir is displayed in London while another salon is located in Newport, Rhode Island.
