Château de Saint-Maixant, Medieval castle in Saint-Maixant, France.
Château de Saint-Maixant is a stone structure with two round towers on its eastern side and a square tower featuring a spiral staircase of 120 steps on the western side. The building spans multiple levels and retains its medieval construction methods and stone masonry.
The building was constructed between the late 1300s and early 1400s on the site of earlier fortifications. The La Roche-Aymon family held it until the 19th century.
The building shows defensive construction methods typical of the Haute Marche region, with its four-sided layout and watchtowers that once guarded the frontier. Visitors can still see how the stone walls and towers were designed to control the landscape around them.
The property offers guest accommodations, vacation rentals, a swimming pool, and spa facilities spread across 13 hectares of private grounds. An elevator connects all seven floors, making access to upper levels convenient.
The structure was abandoned for a period before being converted into a modern hospitality venue while retaining its medieval character. Today it serves as an event space and lodging facility on an expansive private estate.
