Château de Clémery

Château de Clémery is a three-wing castle in Clémery, France, accessed through a monumental gate building from the 18th century. A horseshoe-shaped double staircase in the courtyard connects the different sections of the property.

The estate came under control of François de Clémery in 1574 before later passing to Fouquet de la Routte. These transfers occurred during a period of regional conflicts that significantly affected landownership in the area.

The castle blends architectural styles from different eras, with its Second Empire facade added during extensive renovations in the late 19th century. This layering of design reflects how the tastes and resources of successive owners evolved over time.

As a private property, the castle opens its grounds to visitors only during Heritage Days celebrations. The gardens showcase rare tree species including a centuries-old sequoia and ginkgo biloba trees.

During World War I, the castle functioned as a hospital serving the frontline forces nearby. A concrete bunker from that wartime period remains visible in the park today.
