Château de Beaumont-sur-Sarthe

The stone fortress presents rectangular architecture with walls reaching 3.3 meters thick and original heights of 30 meters above the river.

Built between the 11th and 12th centuries, the castle served as residence for the Viscounts of Maine until receiving historical monument status in 1927.

The castle structure incorporates elements of early stone keep design, similar to other medieval fortifications like Beaugency and Loches in the region.

The castle grounds include picnic areas and welcome visitors, with entry free of charge and guided tours available for groups between 10 to 50 people.

The fortress features a round watchtower measuring 6 meters in diameter, complemented by strong sandstone buttresses at its southeast and northwest corners.
