Château de Davenescourt, Heritage castle in Davenescourt, France
Château de Davenescourt is a castle built in the late 1700s with facades reflecting Louis XVI style, featuring projecting sections and a grand perron entry. The building contains multiple rooms including a ground floor salon and bedroom, along with a chapel located on the estate.
The castle was constructed between 1788 and 1790 by Lucie Philippine de Cardevac de Gouy on the site of an earlier building destroyed during Spanish invasions of 1652. The construction happened more than a century after the original structure was lost.
During World War I, the castle served as a military hospital, receiving distinguished guests including Belgian King Albert I and French President Raymond Poincare.
Access to the protected interior areas including the main staircase and rooms is restricted and requires advance arrangement. Visitors should check conditions ahead of time as the castle is not open for casual drop-in visits.
The estate still operates its historic hydraulic water supply system, which demonstrates engineering know-how from the 1700s. This functioning infrastructure reveals how advanced the technological solutions were for that period.
