Château du Restmeur, Historical monument in Pommerit-le-Vicomte, France.
Château du Restmeur is an estate comprising a main residence, formal gardens, an orchard, a chapel, and outbuildings enclosed within stone walls. The various structures together form a self-contained complex that expanded over time.
Jean de la Monneraye purchased the property in 1724 and initiated extensive renovations, beginning with new stables in 1730 and chapel construction between 1755 and 1763. This period shaped the estate's fundamental form.
The buildings display features of 18th-century Breton noble architecture with different construction phases visible in their form and materials. You can see how each era added its own layer to the estate's appearance.
The estate remains private property with restricted access to the public. Contact local tourism offices to ask about any viewing opportunities or special arrangements.
During the 1790s, the estate became caught up in conflicts between Chouan fighters and Republican forces. Later it served as a refuge for resistance members during wartime occupation.
