Moulin d'Andé, Historic watermill in Andé, France.
The Moulin d'Andé is a mill on the banks of the Seine featuring a wooden water wheel and stone architecture from the 12th century. The property includes 35 guest rooms, a theater in the former orangery, and a park of approximately 15 hectares surrounding the grounds.
The building received national monument status and remains the only preserved water wheel mechanism along the entire Seine River. This inscription as a historical monument honors its significance as a witness to the medieval milling tradition in the region.
Since 1962, this mill operates as a cultural center where artists, musicians, and writers gather to create and present their works. The regular events and exhibitions make it a living meeting place for creative people from the region and beyond.
The property is open to visitors year-round, with both the park and interior spaces offering different experiences. It is worth planning time to explore the grounds, as the combination of historical areas and event spaces provides much to discover.
François Truffaut filmed scenes from 'Jules and Jim' at this location, marking the beginning of its connection with French cinema. This link to film history has since made the site popular for other film productions and cultural projects.
