Château d'Ardennes, Medieval castle in Fléac-sur-Seugne, France.

Château d'Ardennes is a medieval fortress in Fléac-sur-Seugne with a central structure reinforced by buttresses and square towers that rise above machicolations. The layout consists of an elevated main courtyard with U-shaped buildings arranged together to form a closed and protected space.

The first documented ownership of the castle dates to the second half of the 15th century when the Ballodes family took control and held it into the early 17th century. This long period of ownership indicates the property served as an important country seat for an influential family.

The castle shows how people in medieval times designed their fortifications to serve both as homes and defensive structures, with an elevated courtyard that offered safety and views of the surrounding land. The U-shaped arrangement of the main buildings allowed residents to control movement within the court and separate different areas of daily life.

The castle is private property and can only be viewed from outside along public pathways. Visitors can photograph and examine the outer facade, towers, and structure of the building while walking around the grounds.

A special gate tower with a former drawbridge provided direct access for horse-drawn carriages into the main courtyard of the castle. This arrangement was practical and demonstrated the status of residents through the ability to bring carriages directly to their living quarters.
