Chapelle Forerie, Chapel and metallurgical plant in Indre, France.
Chapelle Forerie is a chapel with industrial heritage located near the Loire River in Indre. The building combines religious spaces with remnants of a former metalworking facility, with stone walls and vaulted ceilings showing both functions.
The building began as a tide mill for making gunpowder under Louis XVI. In 1842 it was converted into a chapel for the people who worked there.
The chapel shows how faith and industrial work were connected in this region. Visitors can see how a space for prayer and a workspace existed side by side for the same community.
The site is located on Rue de Lorient and can be reached on foot. The area is relatively flat and easy to access, making it convenient for a walk near the Loire.
Beneath the chapel sits a crypt with traces of the former metalworking shop. This underground level clearly shows how the industrial past rests beneath the religious present.
