Château de Montaigu, Medieval castle in Aube, France

The Château de Montaigu stands on elevated ground with strategic views across the surrounding countryside of the Aube department.

The castle fortress dates back to 950 when Lambert de Chalon constructed it to protect the region from western invasions and monitor Roman roads.

The castle contains architectural elements such as the cabinet de travail and grand salon that represent the French noble lifestyle through different centuries.

The castle remains closed to regular visits until spring 2025, when it will open its doors for guided tours of the grounds and interiors.

The site served multiple purposes throughout its history, from a defensive stronghold to a refuge for villagers during invasions in the 15th century.
