Île des Ibis, Lake island in Le Vésinet, France
Île des Ibis is an island situated in the Grand Lac des Ibis in Le Vésinet, stretching approximately 300 meters long and 120 meters wide. The grounds feature a tennis club with sports facilities and designated walking paths that wind through the terrain.
Originally called Île du Champ de Courses in 1866 when a horse racing track was built around the lake, the island was renamed in 1904 after ibis birds were introduced to the location.
A restaurant called the Pavillon des Ibis operates from historic buildings that once functioned as a hotel complex. Today, it serves as a gathering point for visitors who come to enjoy meals while taking in views of the surrounding water and grounds.
The island is accessible via walking paths and offers space for quiet exploration alongside sports activities. Wear appropriate footwear as the paths traverse varying terrain throughout the grounds.
The ibis birds that gave the island its name were intentionally introduced and continue to shape the character of the place today. This species is otherwise quite rare in the region.
