Puy de Mur

Puy de Mur is a mountain summit in Mur-sur-Allier that rises 592 meters and offers views of the Allier River curves and the Chaîne des Puys range. The slopes show varied structures, including remains of old settlements and different terrain types.

The mountain was once covered with vineyards that were cultivated across generations. Over time, various structures developed on the slopes, including a medieval castle, a Romanesque church, and a dovecote.

The summit features an orientation table that helps visitors identify key geographical points across the surrounding plains. This spot serves as a natural viewpoint where people pause to take in the lay of the land.

The summit is best reached on foot using a circular walking route that starts from a parking area near an old wash house in Vertaizon. The path winds around the mountain and requires a moderate level of fitness.

The path connects various old structures scattered across the slopes that visitors often overlook while walking. An attentive hiker can spot these remnants woven into the natural landscape throughout the route.
