Defens de Pierre-Mont, Mountain summit in Préalpes Sisteronnaises, France
Defens de Pierre-Mont is a 1,563 meter (5,128 feet) summit located at the end of the Vançon Valley in the Préalpes Sisteronnaises. The peak overlooks the hamlet of Feissal and provides views across the surrounding mountain terrain.
The peak was shaped by tectonic movements that built the Préalpes Sisteronnaises over millions of years. These geological processes created the rock formations and ridge structure visible today.
The Mountain Group of Peyrolles-en-Provence regularly conducts hiking expeditions to this summit, maintaining local hiking traditions in the French Pre-Alps.
The climb involves a hike of about 14 to 15 kilometers with roughly 480 meters of elevation gain, taking around four to five hours. Proper hiking gear and weather-appropriate clothing are important since mountain conditions can change quickly.
Along the trail stands the deserted hamlet of Feissal, where old buildings can serve as basic shelter during warmer months when hikers need a break. These stone structures preserve signs of how people once lived in this valley.
