Haute-Suane

Haute-Suane is a 350-meter peak located between Grimaud and Sainte-Maxime in southeastern Provence. The summit offers views across the Gulf of Saint-Tropez and is accessible from trails leading from both neighboring towns.

A dolmen discovered here in 1971 dates to the Chalcolithic period and reveals early burial traditions of the region. The archaeological remains indicate a long history of human settlement in this part of Provence.

This location served as a burial site for prehistoric communities who developed specific practices for honoring their dead. The objects found there reveal what mattered to people in ancient times and how they marked important transitions.

The summit is accessible from trails on both sides and offers opportunities to enjoy the landscape during the climb. Trail conditions may vary with seasons and weather, so wear appropriate footwear and bring water.

The burials at this site involved an unusual practice: human bones were heated to very high temperatures before being placed in the burial chamber. This technique was rare in the Chalcolithic period and reveals sophisticated ritual practices of these ancient communities.
