Le Méale

Le Méale is a summit in the Hautes-Alpes region that reaches 2303 meters in elevation. Multiple hiking routes climb through dense forest before opening onto rocky slopes near the peak.

The mountain carries traces of historical shepherding activity, including an abandoned structure called La Cabane du Landet. This shelter marks the presence of herders who once inhabited these Alpine territories.

Local mountaineers maintain the traditional routes through Le Méale, preserving the regional mountain exploration heritage through marked trails and guidance.

The hike starts from Praveyral hamlet where parking is limited. The route involves a 960-meter elevation gain across forest trails and open mountain terrain.

During winter, ski touring enthusiasts use the southern slopes which feature angles up to roughly 35 degrees. This seasonal activity reveals how the summit transforms across different seasons.
