Lac des Bariousses, French reservoir lake

Lac des Bariousses is a large body of water covering around 100 hectares in the Corrèze region. The wide, calm surface stretches to the horizon and serves mainly as a fishing destination where anglers pursue carp and other species.

The Lac des Bariousses was created by the January 1952 commissioning of the Treignac dam, which supplies the Chingeat hydroelectric plant seven kilometres downstream on the Vézère. Its impoundment formed the island of Puy du Merle. The lake lies within the Millevaches en Limousin regional natural park and the Dordogne basin biosphere reserve.

The name comes from the lieu-dit les Bariousses on the right bank by the Treignac dam. That right bank holds a leisure base, and the GR 440B long-distance path runs below the dam and along the eastern shore. Water released from the Monceaux dam upstream passes through the Monceaux hydroelectric plant before feeding the lake. The GR 440B long-distance footpath runs below the dam and along the eastern shore.
