In 177 AD, the underground chambers of this location held Bishop Pothinus and forty Christians during the persecution under Marcus Aurelius.
The museum exhibits numerous paintings and mosaics that illustrate the development of early Christian communities in the Lyon region.
Visitors can access the museum from Wednesday to Sunday between 10:00 and 18:00, with separate admission fees for the main exhibits and crypt.
The original prison cells where early Christian martyrs were held remain preserved in the underground section of the museum complex.
