Gorges De La Méouge, protected area in France
Gorges de la Méouge is a protected limestone canyon carved by river erosion over time. The valley features narrow passages, deep pools, and several waterfalls along its course.
The canyon formed millions of years ago as water flowed through limestone and gradually carved it away. This geological process created the valley we see today in the Provence-Alpes region.
The gorge hosts rare plant species native to this region and protected by law. Visitors discover these special plants in their natural habitat while walking through the area.
The site is accessible through several marked trails that offer different difficulty levels. Parking areas are available at the gorge entrances, making it easy for visitors to reach the start of the paths.
On certain October days, motorized traffic is restricted and only pedestrians and cyclists have access to the entire gorge. This creates a quieter experience without vehicles and makes the route easier for everyone to navigate.
