Moulin de Senlis

The Moulin de Senlis is a watermill in Montgeron that appears castle-like in style, featuring a broken arch gateway, heraldic shields, chimeras, and a round tower. The structure displays elaborate stonework and architectural details that reflect its long history and former importance.

First documented in 1456 as 'Moulin de Sen Lices', the mill operated by harnessing water power through three hydraulic wheels to grind grain. It remained active until the 19th century, supplying flour to Paris markets.

Starting in 1917, the building welcomed Russian orphans and features an Orthodox chapel still standing on the grounds today. This small church reflects the Russian community that made its home here for generations.

The town of Montgeron acquired the property in 2018 and launched a renovation to create 26 residential units while maintaining its historical character. Check accessibility in advance, as restoration work may still be ongoing or recently completed.

The interior of the round tower displays paintings by artist Feodor Rojankovsky created during the 1960s when the building served various purposes beyond milling. These artistic works offer a glimpse into how the property evolved and changed hands over time.
