Château de Castelbon

Château de Castelbon is a medieval castle near Betchat with a U-shaped layout marked by four towers at its corners. The structure combines two square and two round defensive towers that form a fortified building from the 14th century.

Roger de Comminges became Lord of Castelbon in 1394, marking the beginning of documented noble rule over the castle. This period established the importance of noble control and the strategic value of the fortification in the region.

The castle shows the style of French noble architecture with its robust construction and defensive features that come from the medieval period. The massive stone structure and corner towers reflect the power that the owners once held in this region.

The castle is private property and cannot be visited from inside, but its outer structure is visible from the nearby RD 35 road. From this public route, visitors can observe the architecture and towers from outside.

In 1953 the castle was converted into a model farm under Gilbert Tocanier before changing hands several times afterward. This transformation shows how the medieval fortress became a modern agricultural operation.
