Château d'Empeaux, Renaissance castle in Empeaux, France.
Château d'Empeaux is a castle from the Renaissance period located in Empeaux, France, with a rectangular layout spanning three levels. It features cylindrical watchtowers at the entrances and square towers on the side facing the garden.
The castle was built in the late 1500s by the Lambès family and came into the hands of the Italian Cathala family in 1607 when François Cathala became lord of Empeaux. The Doujat family later took ownership and held the baronial title until 2002.
The castle shows the building style of the Haute-Garonne region through its terracotta brick walls and 19th-century renovations that reference medieval design. Visitors can observe this blend of different periods in the structure itself.
The castle sits in the heart of Empeaux village, right next to the church and the local cemetery. It is located roughly 40 miles (64 km) west of Toulouse and easy to find when visiting the village.
The property retained its baronial status through the Doujat family over several centuries, making it a remarkable example of continuous aristocratic rule in the region. This unbroken family stewardship is rare to find today.
