Tour de Barcelonne

Tour de Barcelonne is a stone defensive tower rising through four levels, standing prominently above the surrounding landscape. The structure features thick protective walls that encircle a small observation platform at the top where views extend across the region.

Built in the 12th century as the core of a feudal castle, this tower was designed to protect the region from external threats. Its construction reflected the military strategies of the period needed to secure the Drôme valley.

The tower displays medieval defensive construction methods through its solid stone walls, reflecting the power of feudal rule in the region. Visitors can understand how its location shaped control over the surrounding lands.

Access to the tower is via marked walking trails starting from Barcelonne village, taking approximately 30 minutes. The terrain is hilly, so sturdy footwear and basic fitness are advisable for the ascent.

On clear days, the summit reveals views of three distinct mountain ranges: the Vercors, the Three Peaks massif, and the Alpine foothills, all visible in one panorama. This combined view explains why this location held such strategic value during medieval times.
