Donon Temple, Archaeological site on Mont Donon, France

Donon Temple is an archaeological site on a mountain in the Vosges that now displays a reconstructed building with four pillars and a stone roof. The site sits at about 1000 meters elevation and holds ancient objects and inscriptions from Celtic and Roman times.

An ancient sanctuary with Celtic and Roman origins was discovered on this mountaintop during 19th-century archaeological work. The temple structure seen today was built in 1869 to display and protect the artifacts found there.

Visitors and locals come to this place for its connection to Celtic and Roman history. The stone markers and objects here show how faith and community were important in ancient times.

To reach the temple, follow marked hiking trails from Grandfontaine to the mountain summit. The route works best in good weather, and sturdy footwear is practical for the uneven mountain path.

At the base of the mountain sits an old circular stone structure that hikers often overlook, even though it marks where people gathered long ago. This round formation shows how this spot was used for meetings in ancient times.
