Petraki Monastery, Byzantine monastery in Kolonaki, Athens, Greece
The monastery features a four-aisled church with an octagonal dome supported by ancient columns, representing classical Byzantine architectural elements.
Originally named Koukopoule, the monastery received its current name in 1673 after monk Parthenios Petrakis funded extensive renovations of the complex.
The monastery functions as the headquarters of the Holy Synod of the Church of Greece and contains the grave of notable cleric Constantinos Oikonomou.
Daily mass services occur from 6:00 AM to 8:15 AM, with radio broadcasts through the Church of Greece station for remote participation.
The monastery donated substantial property holdings to establish major institutions including Evangelismos Hospital, the Academy of Athens, and the Technical University.
