Old Carpet Factory

The Old Carpet Factory is a grand residence on Hydra island featuring stone arches, geometric patterns, high ceilings, and an open terrace overlooking the harbor. The building blends Venetian architectural elements with local construction techniques and currently hosts summer exhibitions displaying antique carpets alongside contemporary art.

Built in the late 1700s by Venetian architects for Admiral Anastasios Tsamados's family, the structure later became a carpet weaving workshop under Nicholas Soutzoglou. This transformation reflected the island's shift toward craft production and trade.

The building currently hosts an artist residency and recording studio where international musicians and artists work together in its historic spaces.

The site is best visited during summer months when exhibitions featuring antique carpets and contemporary art take place. Access is through Hydra's narrow lanes, and the open terrace provides a quiet spot with views across the harbor.

The lower section of the former carpet factory now works as a professional recording studio, taking advantage of the exceptional acoustics created by the building's original architecture. This use shows how historic craft spaces can be reimagined for modern artistic purposes.
