Southern Finland Province, Administrative province in southern Finland
The province extends over 34,378 square kilometers, encompassing six regions including South Karelia, Päijänne Tavastia, and Uusimaa with Helsinki as its largest city.
Created in September 1997 by merging Uusimaa Province, Kymi Province, and southern parts of Häme Province, this administrative region operated until its dissolution in 2010.
The provincial coat of arms incorporated designs from Tavastia, Karelia, and Uusimaa regions, representing the distinct territorial heritage of these historical areas.
The State Provincial Office maintained service locations in Hämeenlinna, Helsinki, and Kouvola, employing 380 staff members to manage regional administrative functions.
The province bordered both the Gulf of Finland and Russia, containing 72 municipalities with a population density of 64 people per square kilometer.
