Sinebrychoff Art Museum, Art and house museum in Punavuori, Helsinki, Finland
The Sinebrychoff Art Museum is an art and house museum in Punavuori, Helsinki, displaying European artworks from the 14th to 19th centuries. Half of the building functions as exhibition galleries for the collection, while the other half remains arranged as a historic family residence with period furnishings and decor.
The building was constructed in 1842 as a private residence for the Sinebryukhov family. In 1921, the family donated their art collection to the Finnish state, transforming the house into a public museum.
The name honors Paul and Fanny Sinebrychoff, who lived in the building and shaped its character as both a private home and art collector's space. The rooms still feel like the residence of a wealthy family, with furniture and objects arranged as they were during their time.
The museum sits on Bulevardi street in central Helsinki and is easy to find and reach. Visitors should allow time to explore both the art galleries and the historic rooms, as they are intertwined throughout the building.
The collection contains roughly 900 artworks acquired by the family over decades, many from the Netherlands and Italy. These pieces are displayed in the same rooms where the family originally lived and collected them, creating an intimate viewing experience.
