Kristinestad

Kristinestad spans across 1,678 square kilometers on Finland's western shore, where wooden houses line the streets of its grid-planned center.

Count Peter Brahe established this maritime settlement in 1649 on Koppö island, naming it after Queen Christina of Sweden.

The town maintains both Finnish and Swedish as official languages, with 53 percent of residents speaking Swedish and 41 percent speaking Finnish.

The municipality contains 320 farms that produce one-third of Finland's potato supply through advanced agricultural methods.

Kristinestad joined the Cittaslow network in 2011, becoming the first Finnish community to embrace this movement for sustainable living standards.
