Kuappi, Guinness World Record restaurant in Iisalmi, Finland
Kuappi is a tiny restaurant in Iisalmi with a total area of 8 square meters, of which only 3.6 square meters serve as dining space. The room contains one table for two people, a bar counter, a television, and a restroom, while food is prepared at the adjacent Olutmestari restaurant.
The building was originally constructed in 1907 as a cabin for Finnish State Railways inspectors. It was later relocated to its present location and now operates as a restaurant.
The name Kuappi comes from the Savonian dialect and refers to the Finnish word for cupboard. This linguistic choice reflects the place's deep connection to its regional identity and local speech traditions.
The restaurant is extremely compact and offers seating for only two people, making it an unusual dining experience. Visitors should expect very tight quarters and should know that most food comes from the adjacent kitchen.
Kuappi held the Guinness World Record in 2018 as the world's smallest restaurant, beating out competition from other tiny eateries worldwide. This recognition brought international attention and drew curious visitors from around the globe.
