Sälskär lighthouse, Maritime navigation structure in Hammarland, Finland.
The 39-meter-tall lighthouse stands on the island of Sälskär, providing guidance to ships navigating through the Sea of Åland waters.
Architect Hampus Dalström designed this lighthouse in 1866, marking the beginning of enhanced maritime safety measures in the northern Baltic region.
The lighthouse represents generations of dedicated keepers who maintained the structure and guided vessels through challenging maritime conditions until 1949.
Visitors can access the lighthouse through boat excursions departing from Skarpnåtö, with tours lasting approximately five hours round trip.
The structure transitioned from kerosene to acetylene power in 1949, and later adopted solar cell technology in the 1990s for sustainable operation.
