Pommern, Museum ship in Mariehamn, Finland.
The Pommern is a four-masted barque nearly 95 meters long with square sails, moored at the Åland Maritime Museum dock. The ship displays the characteristic construction and equipment of a large merchant sailing vessel from that era.
The ship was built in 1903 at the Glasgow shipyard J. Reid & Co and transported grain between Australia and Europe. It survived two world wars and was later preserved as a floating museum.
The vessel belonged to the renowned Flying P-Liner fleet and shows how merchant sailing ships were built and equipped in the early 1900s. The preserved structure gives a sense of working conditions and life aboard such vessels.
Access to the ship is available from May through September, with extended hours during summer months. Wear comfortable shoes and expect tight stairways and low passages when exploring the interior.
The original iron hull from 1903 is remarkably well preserved and offers rare glimpses into early ship construction methods. Many vessels of this class disappeared, yet this one was kept in service and remained intact across decades.
