Mikkelinsaaret, Archipelago in Gulf of Bothnia, Finland.
Mikkelinsaaret is an archipelago with around 300 islands and islets in the Gulf of Bothnia. The two largest landmasses are Vildskär and Stora Källskär.
Records from the mid-16th century document the archipelago as a fishing center. Archaeological finds show that people lived here over an extended period.
The islands show traces of old Nordic life through abandoned homes, burial mounds, and former fishing sites scattered across the terrain. These remains tell of people who lived from the sea for many generations.
Access is through harbors near Köklot, where boat launch facilities are available. The best time to visit is during calm weather, as the waters can become rough and dangerous during storms.
The area contains wetland areas and moorland lakes where white-tailed eagles, guillemots, and black-headed gulls breed. These nesting grounds make it a significant refuge for birds in the region.
