Grožnjan, Medieval hilltop municipality in Istria County, Croatia.
The municipality extends across northwestern Istria, positioned on a rocky hill overlooking the Quieto Valley, surrounded by ancient fortification walls.
During Venetian rule from 1358 to 1797, the town fortifications were strengthened with defensive walls and towers against Ottoman advances in 1445.
The municipality features twenty art galleries, numerous art studios, and an international jazz festival that brings musicians together throughout summer months.
The territory includes several settlements such as Antonzi, Castagna, Cuberton, and Piemonte d'Istria, with Italian recognized as an official language.
The 2011 census revealed that 56 percent of residents declare Italian as their mother tongue, making it the only Croatian municipality with an Italian majority.
