Sokolac Castle

Sokolac Castle is a stone fortification in Brinje situated at approximately 486 meters elevation. The complex features a three-story square tower with facades adorned by vertical stone strips and decorative blind arcades.

The fortification was built around 1400 and served as a residence for the Princes of Krk from the House of Frankopan during the medieval period. The structure thus stood at the center of a significant regional power base of that era.

The Court Chapel of the Holy Trinity inside displays Late Gothic architectural details in its stonework and vaulting. Visitors can still see the decorative craftsmanship that shaped these interior spaces during the medieval period.

The name derives from the Croatian word for hawk, which also appears on the town's coat of arms. This connection between the castle's name and local identity shows how deeply the structure was woven into the region.
