Remetinec Roundabout, Roundabout and bicycle bridge in Kajzerica, Zagreb, Croatia.
Remetinec Roundabout is a major traffic hub in southwestern Zagreb connecting several important road arteries. The intersection features three main lanes plus additional bypass lanes designed to manage high traffic volumes.
Constructed in 1981, the roundabout was built to regulate traffic in this region with an initial capacity of around 50,000 vehicles daily. After decades of use and rising traffic demands, extensive reconstruction began in 2018.
The intersection functions as a central transportation hub connecting major Croatian cities including Split, Rijeka, and the capital Zagreb.
Vehicles already circulating in the roundabout have the right of way over entering traffic. Separate bypass lanes at multiple entry points allow drivers to avoid the main circle when turning.
Between 1997 and 2006, this intersection recorded many traffic accidents that highlighted safety concerns. The accident patterns during this period made the case for the major safety improvements implemented afterward.
