Lovrečina Castle

Lovrečina Castle is a medieval fortress featuring three distinct wings connected by a central layout with round towers anchoring the corners. The building design shows clear zones for living and working, reflecting typical defensive architecture of the period.

The castle was first documented in 1540 and served as a defensive stronghold during confrontations with Ottoman forces in the region. Later it sustained damage during the Peasant Revolt of 1775.

The Sisters of Mercy established a religious community here starting in 1956, creating a space where people could live and work together. This role as a gathering place for communal living remains central to how the castle functions today.
