Japetić

Japetić is an 879-meter peak near Jastrebarsko that features marked hiking trails through deciduous forests and meadows. The summit offers views across northwestern Croatia and neighboring Slovenia, with a stone observation tower built in 1960 standing at the top.

The mountain became increasingly developed as a hiking destination in the mid-20th century, leading to the construction of the observation tower in 1960. This period marked the growing interest of the region in recreational activities in the Samobor range.

The mountain serves as a gathering place for hiking groups and outdoor enthusiasts who regularly organize excursions to explore the area. This tradition has made it an important meeting point for people who enjoy connecting with nature.

The hike from the village of Sveta Jana takes about 1.5 hours and follows stable forest paths. A forest road also provides access to Žitnica mountain lodge for those seeking an easier route.

The beech forests at the summit received protected status in 1975 and harbor rare plant species found in this mountain vegetation zone. This natural reserve allows visitors to experience robust mountain ecosystems up close.
