Ključica, várrom Horvátországban
Ključica is a medieval stone fortress overlooking the town of Drniš in Croatia, built on a steep rocky outcrop above the Čikola River canyon. The structure features rectangular stone walls, a courtyard, and defensive works with sections of the main walls and interior buildings still visible among the ruins.
The fortress was built by the Nelipić family in the 14th century and first appears in records in 1333 when Venetian authorities demanded compensation from the noble Izan Nelipić. After its peak importance in medieval times, it declined in strategic value during the 16th century following Ottoman capture around 1522 and subsequent abandonment.
The site is easily reached from the town of Drniš with a short walk or drive uphill to the rocky terrain. Wear sturdy footwear as the ground is uneven with rough stones and low vegetation throughout the area.
Archaeological excavations have uncovered pottery, glass, and metal nails from different periods, revealing how residents lived and built at the site. These findings show the changing uses of the fortress across centuries of occupation.
