Csákvári Cave

Csákvári Cave is a natural rock cavity formed in dolomite stone near Csákvár. Inside, the rock walls show multiple fissures and passages that reveal how water and time shaped this underground space.

The cave functioned as a sanctuary in ancient times and was later investigated through archaeology. Early 20th-century excavations uncovered fossils from the Pleistocene epoch, revealing the site's great age.

The site sits on a mountainside and is reachable by a marked trail starting from Csákvár. Sturdy footwear is advisable, and visitors should be prepared for damp conditions inside the cave.

The cave holds an unusual concentration of fossils from different time periods in its layers. These remains offer a window into the diverse animal life that once inhabited the region.
