Reformed church in Csaroda

The Reformed Church of Csaroda stands on a small hill with a slender tower and needle-like spire near the Csaronda creek in Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg county. The building displays features from different periods, ranging from its medieval origins to later decorations and structural changes.

The building was constructed in the late 13th century as an early parish church. In 1642, medieval wall paintings were covered with lime, and afterward floral decorative motifs were added to the surfaces.

The interior walls show smiling saints from the 14th century, paired with a painted wooden ceiling from 1777 and folk Baroque furnishings. These details create a warm and personal space that reflects the layered history of worship in this village.

The church is located in a small village and is reachable on foot from the village center through simple paths and peaceful surroundings. It is best to check in advance whether it is open for visits, as it remains an active place of worship.

Adjacent to the main tower stands a separate wooden belfry rather than bells housed within the tower itself. This unusual arrangement reflects local building traditions and practical solutions from earlier centuries.
