Sátorkőpuszta Cave, Thermal karst cave in Esztergom, Hungary.
Sátorkőpuszta Cave is a thermal karst formation roughly 354 meters long and about 49 meters deep. Spherical chambers are lined with white gypsum crystals and calcite deposits that formed over time through warm water activity.
Workers discovered the cave in 1944 while excavating in a limestone quarry by chance. Scientists first studied and mapped it in 1946, recognizing its geological importance.
The cave is a protected site that locals and visitors value for its mineral formations and geological features. People come here to see the rare crystal deposits that developed over time through thermal water activity.
You can visit only through guided tours offered from March to November, which require advance registration. Visitors should expect specialized equipment to be provided and tours to be physically demanding.
Spherical chambers contain rare aragonite clusters and gypsum flowers, some reaching about 60 centimeters in size. These delicate crystal formations develop only under specific conditions with warm mineral water.
