Our Lady of the Stone Church (Kaszásdűlő), Pfarrkirche in Ungarn

Welcome to Budapest, the beautiful capital city of Hungary! As a tourist guide, I am excited to take you on a journey to discover one of the hidden gems of the city - the Kövi Szűz Mária-plébániatemplom. Located in the third district of Budapest, on Szentendrei út in Kaszásdűlő, this Roman Catholic church is part of the main parish of Óbuda. Despite being one of the smaller churches in the area, it holds a rich history and cultural significance that makes it worth visiting. Getting to the church is easy, as it is located near the Kaszásdűlő stop for the H5 suburban railway line and the 34 and 106 buses. The entrance is wheelchair accessible, making it convenient for all visitors. If you are coming from the Filatorigát stop on the HÉV, the easiest way to reach the church is by walking. The history of the Kövi Szűz Mária-plébániatemplom dates back to 1811 when a flood of the Danube River brought a picture of the Virgin Mary to the shore near Kaszásdűlő. A local stonemason named Bauer Jakab found the picture and attached it to one of the remaining pillars of the ancient Roman aqueduct, giving it the name "Máriakő" or "Mary's Stone." In 1843, a protective iron frame was added to the picture to shield it from the elements. Over time, the picture became a site of pilgrimage, and in 1865, a neo-Romanesque chapel was built around it. The chapel has a single nave and is decorated with colorful stained glass windows. The locals began calling it the Mária-kő kápolna or "Mary's Stone Chapel," and it quickly became a popular destination for those seeking spiritual guidance. As you explore the Kövi Szűz Mária-plébániatemplom, take in the beautiful architecture and the peaceful atmosphere. Admire the intricate details of the stained glass windows and the ornate decorations of the altar. Take a moment to reflect on the history and significance of this sacred site. In conclusion, the Kövi Szűz Mária-plébániatemplom is a must-visit destination for anyone interested in exploring the rich cultural heritage of Budapest. Its history, architecture, and spiritual significance make it a unique and unforgettable experience. So, come and visit this hidden gem and discover the beauty of Budapest!
