St. Mel's Cathedral, Longford

The interior of St. Mel's Cathedral contains twenty-four limestone columns extracted from the quarries of Newtowncashel, supporting the grand ceiling structure.

Following a devastating fire in December 2009, the cathedral underwent a complete restoration process that lasted five years until its reopening in 2014.

The cathedral features a Carrara marble altar, contains a pipe organ with 2,307 pipes, and displays stained glass windows created by Dominican priest Kim en Joong.

The cathedral maintains regular Mass schedules throughout the week and provides live streaming services for remote participation in ceremonies and religious events.

The cathedral appears on the official crest of Longford Town football club and in the emblems of County Longford Gaelic Athletic Association teams.
