Dunmore Cave, Show cave and national monument in Castlecomer, Ireland.

The limestone formations within Dunmore Cave extend for 310 meters and descend to a depth of 150 feet through multiple chambers and passages.

The Annals of the Four Masters document that in 928 AD, a thousand people lost their lives in Dunmore Cave during a Viking raid.

The name Dunmore originates from the Irish 'Dún Mór,' meaning great fort, and appears in ancient Irish texts as one of Ireland's three darkest places.

The cave maintains consistent cold temperatures and requires visitors to navigate 700 steps while wearing appropriate footwear for wet and uneven surfaces.

A silver and bronze collection of 43 items dating from 970 AD was discovered deep within the cave during archaeological excavations in 1999.
