Castlepark, Coastal recreation area in County Cork, Ireland.
Castlepark is a coastal recreation area on a peninsula that extends into Kinsale Harbour, bounded by the River Bandon, the Atlantic Ocean, and Sandycove Creek. The landscape combines open grassland, farmland, and historic ruins spread across the rolling terrain.
The peninsula holds James's Fort from the early 17th century and Ringrone Castle dating to the 12th century, showing its former military importance. These structures defended the harbour during different periods of conflict and change.
The old graveyard around Ringrone Church remains in use today, connecting residents with centuries of local tradition. Visitors can see how this sacred ground continues to serve the community across generations.
Access to the area is via Duggan Bridge, built in 1976, which spans the River Bandon from the Kinsale side. Visitors should be mindful of tidal conditions and weather, as both affect the landscape and walking conditions throughout the site.
Around 500 acres of farmland cover the peninsula, where farmers grow cereals and sugar beet while raising cattle and sheep. This working agricultural landscape creates an interesting contrast with the historic ruins and shows how the land remains actively used today.
