Doonbeg Golf Club, Sportstätte in Irland
Doonbeg Golf Club is a golf course on the County Clare coast in Ireland with views of the Atlantic shoreline. The course spans 18 holes across dunes and coastal terrain, including par-3s, par-4s, and reachable par-5s distinguished by natural hills and bunker systems.
The course was designed and opened by Greg Norman in 2006 but later underwent significant changes from storms that damaged the land. Architect Martin Hawtree subsequently carried out extensive restoration and improvements to bunkers and greens.
The name Doonbeg comes from Irish origins tied to the coastal region's landscape and heritage. Today visitors experience a modern resort that blends with its natural surroundings and welcomes golfers and travelers seeking to connect with Irish coastal traditions.
Allow about four and a half hours for a round and book tee times and caddies in advance, especially during the season. The course offers accommodations at its resort, or you can stay in nearby coastal towns like Kilkee that have good cafes and pubs.
The signature 14th hole is a short par-3 right by the ocean where the green hangs over the beach and the sea view takes the breath away. This memorable hole draws golfers to want to play another round immediately after finishing.
