The championship course extends over 7,500 yards along the Irish Sea coastline, featuring natural dunes and strategic bunkers throughout the layout.
Established in 1894, the course started with nine holes on Saint Stephen's Day and expanded to eighteen holes in 1896 with a new clubhouse.
The club maintained a men-only membership policy until 2021, reflecting the traditional social structures of Irish golf institutions over many decades.
Located 10 miles north of Dublin and 15 minutes from Dublin Airport, the facility includes 27 holes, a clubhouse, dining facilities, and a pro shop.
The R&A considered Portmarnock Golf Club in 2023 as a potential future venue for hosting The Open Championship or Women's Open Championship.
