Wells House, Gorey

Wells House is a country house museum in County Wexford encompassing about 450 acres of woodlands, gardens, and formal terraces designed by architect Daniel Robertson. The estate features an animal farm with various creatures, an adventure playground, woodland walking paths, and Brambles Café offering homemade food.

The original building was constructed in the late 1600s by John Warren, a Cromwellian officer, before being replaced with a new structure in the 1830s. The rebuilt house then belonged to the Doyne family until 1964.

The Living Victorian House Tour shares stories of past residents like Lady Frances and reveals how the family lived within these walls during the Victorian era. Through this guided experience, visitors gain insight into the daily routines and social customs of a wealthy household from that period.

The estate is easy to explore on foot and offers a good mix of built attractions and natural paths suitable for different activity levels. Wear comfortable shoes and allow enough time to wander through the woodlands at a relaxed pace.

Two woodland paths called The Fairy Walk and Mogue's Enchanted Walk feature hidden fairy doors, miniature castles, and a resident Gruffalo character nestled among ancient trees. These playful elements turn a simple walk into an imaginative adventure for visitors of all ages.
