Granuaile's Castle, Tower house on Clare Island, County Mayo, Ireland.

The 40-foot-high stone castle features two bartizans and stands prominently on the east coast of Clare Island, overlooking the Atlantic Ocean.

The O'Malley clan constructed this fortification in the 16th century, which later became a stronghold for Grace O'Malley during her control of the Irish seas.

The castle represents a vital connection to Ireland's maritime heritage through its association with Grace O'Malley, who led the O'Malley fleet in the 1500s.

Visitors reach the castle via ferry services from Roonagh Pier to Clare Island, with guided tours available during the spring and summer months.

In 1831, the castle transformed into a police barracks, leading to modifications including the addition of purple slate flashing to its defensive towers.
