Masada, Fortress in Israel
Masada is an ancient fortification in the Southern District of Israel, on top of an isolated rock plateau.
Built by Herod the Great, Masada was the last stronghold held by Jewish rebels during the First Jewish–Roman War.
The siege of Masada by Roman troops has become a symbol of Jewish resistance.
Today, Masada is one of Israel's most popular tourist attractions.
The remains of the fortress of Masada are well preserved and have been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
